A CONTROVERSIAL group of women who say smoking marijuana makes them better parents meet for a cannabis infused dinner party in Beverly Hills, California. The ‘marijuana moms’ are one of a number of groups popping up all over California where medicinal marijuana use is legal. Mum-of-two Cheryl Shuman hosts parties every month where women can try new strains of the drug. Fellow group member January Thomas smokes marijuana up to five times per day while looking after her 2-year-old daughter, Zeena.

As marijuana legalization expands across the country, who is benefiting from the blossoming industry? In most cases, it is a very different population from that which has previously borne the brunt of marijuana criminalization. Millions are still dealing with scars from the war on drugs, leading to deep skepticism that the marijuana industry can get inclusion right. Yamiche Alcindor reports.
Kevin Sabet, president and CEO of Smart Approaches to Marijuana, an organization leading the lobbying effort against legalization of the drug, joins “Squawk Box” to explain why his organization is dedicated to stopping a tobacco-like industry from forming around cannabis. Sabet is also a former White House advisor on drug policy under the Obama Administration.

Prices of high-flying cannabis companies may be about to tumble down to reality, upon legalization.
In Canada, they very likely may see an immediate decline, while the impacts on American-based pot stocks may also be negative, but perhaps with a slight (or no) delay.

Why in 2017 do we still see marijuana illegal? The cannabis legal status currently has no logical backbone! The war on drugs is fighting the wrong drugs and helping the cartel! The drug policy is senseless jibberish. We will see pot legalized at some point, why not today? I will stop at nothing until I see marijuana legalized!
The “marijuana problem” is simply the legal status of pot gives kids access to other illegal drugs. Marijuana isn’t all that benign, but at least it doesn’t cause irreversible brain damage as soon as THC crosses the blood brain barrier. If you choose to smoke marijuana, you’re not a criminal. Help me on this path to drug legalization so we stop fighting the wrong substances.
Drugs are bad, but the drug war is worse. It’s possible that legalizing marijuana could be a huge public-health win.
