65% of Canadians taking medical cannabis are doing so to help ease the pain of arthritis. What does this mean for you? Join Dr. Jason McDougall (Dalhousie) and Dr. Mark Ware (McGill) to discuss the science and clinical practice of using medical cannabis for arthritis: what it does, how you might access it through your doctor, what some of the questions are, and how research will seek to answer those questions.

The medical use of cannabis and cannabinoids has undergone considerable study in the past 15 years in parallel with changes in regulations allowing patients to access this controversial drug. This session will provide an overview of the clinical research in cannabinoids and pain management, review clinical options for patients interested in this approach, and will conclude with a discussion around the challenges of cannabis use in patients with arthritis.

How to Make Cannabutter – Weed Butter Tutorial!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

* Weed
*Butter Salted (works way better)2
*cheese Cloth
*Pot
*Baking sheet and Parchment Paper
*Spatula thing
*Oven

(these are intrusions from the internet if you want to follow these)

Step 1: Decarboxylation [used to activate THCA into it’s psychoactive version, THC].
Step 1a. Preheat oven to 230 degrees F. Use an oven thermometer to gauge temperature.
Step 1b. Remove any stems and seeds from your bud.
Step 1c. Weigh bud after removing stems.
Step 1d. Spread bud evenly over baking try.
Step 1e. Decarb for 30-40 minutes, or until your bud is brown/dark green.
CAUTION!! A lot of people screw this step up – be sure to check every 5 minutes (or even less) to ensure your bud does not burn.
Step 1f. Remove baking try and let cool for 20 minutes.
Optional step: Weigh bud after decarboxylation is complete.

Step 2: Fat Extraction [used to transfer THC from our cannabis to the butter]
Step 2a. Finely grind your decarbed bud.
Step 2b. Bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and add 2 sticks of butter.
Step 2c. Once butter is melted and simmering, add your finely ground bud.
Step 2d. Simmer on low for 3 hours, stirring every 10-15 minutes.
CAUTION!! Add water as needed to ensure the butter is floating 1-2 inches from the bottom of the saucepan at all times (prevents burning).
Step 2e. Remove from heat and let cool for 30-40 minutes.(I don’t use water in the video I feel it makes the butter come out stronger without it )

Step 3: Strain and Cool [used to remove plant material and solidify + separate our butter]
Step 3a. Prepare strainer using cheesecloth and elastic bands.
Step 3b. Carefully pour contents into the strainer. Squeeze out any and all butter!
Step 3c. Cover your canna butter and refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours.
Step 3d. Submerge in a warm water bath to slightly melt the edges of the canna butter.
Step 3e. Carefully invert bowl to release water.
Store in a container in the refrigerator until use.

Thousands of veterans interested in marijuana for pain management face fear and uncertainty trying to access the substance for medical reasons even as a growing number of Americans face expanding access.

Already, 33 states and the District of Columbia have legalized medical marijuana, and 11 states and DC have gone one step further legalizing recreational cannabis.

Medical marijuana has been legal in the tri-state area for years, but because it remains illegal at the federal level and because the Department of Veterans Affairs follows federal policy, the VA considers all forms of marijuana an illegal drug, meaning veterans can’t get help accessing medical marijuana from their VA doctors.

During a recent Congressional hearing exploring bills that would allow for expanded access to medical marijuana for veterans, representatives for the VA indicated they would continue to oppose such policies as long as marijuana remains illegal at the federal level.

Eyewitness News began looking at the issue after hearing from multiple veterans that they were uncertain whether they would be penalized or denied treatment and ongoing prescriptions provided by the VA if they tried medical marijuana.

Where can I buy marijuana seeds?

Boy oh boy do we get this question a lot…but it’s totally understandable!

You can be stealthy about everything you do whilst growing, but many people feel like the act of getting seeds is the least secure part of their grow.

It doesn’t have to be!

Many growers choose to start their first grow with seeds they find in their buds, otherwise known as “bagseed”.

This can be a convenient way to test out your growing skills with little investment, but sometimes you get unexpected results as you often don’t know very much, if anything, about the strain or how the plant is going to grow.

The web is awash with growers claiming to have grown bagseed that was out of this world, but also and more commonly so bagseed that produced tall, spindly plants with low yields and weak buds. It’s all part of the bagseed lottery.

If you happen to know another grower or live near a medical marijuana dispensary, it’s sometimes possible to get seeds or clones from them. Several dispensaries and collectives will offer free or cheap clones or seeds to medical marijuana patients. If this option is available to you, you can choose your strain and talk to the breeder about how the plant grows. That way you’ll have a better idea of what to expect.

But what about ordering seeds online? Is it safe?

Several trusted companies have been delivering seeds to customers for many years, and many more will start to do the same as marijuana becomes more and more mainstream.

If you need to find a specific strain for your needs, or desire a strain that grows a certain way (for example if you have a small grow space and need a strain that grows short and bushy), you will probably want to look into ordering seeds directly from a breeder or online seed bank.

Most growers these days start with feminized seeds from a trusted seedbank, and we predict this will continue for the foreseeable future even though the option to produce one’s own seeds remains ever present.

So, in answer to the question, Use bagseed (seeds that you find in your buds), get seeds or clones from a fellow grower, or order seeds online from a secure online seedbank.

How to Make Weed Butter for Baking Edibles

Here we show you the best way to make marijuana butter for baking, allowing you to make awesome edibles or marijuana teas.

You will need:
2 1/2 oz marijuana leaf
2 lbs of butter (unsalted)
cooking pot
tupper ware dish
spoon or spatula
Measuring cup
2 cups of water
strainer
wax paper
cookie sheet

Put stove top on the lowest possible simmer and add 1 brick of butter. At the same Tim set the oven to 250 degrees F and set the timer to 20 – 25 minutes. Place wax paper on top of the cookie sheet and spread the marijuana leaf out evenly on top of the wax paper. Once the oven is ready place the marijuana leaf in the oven to heat. This starts the process of decarboxylation.
Once the butter has melted in the pot, and 20 – 25 minutes has passed, take the marijuana leaf out of the oven and stir it into the melted butter. If you find you have too much leaf you can then add another brick of butter. You want the marijuana leaf to be covered in melted butter. Next set your timer for 8 – 11 hours and allow the mixture to simmer on the lowest setting, checking it ever 30 min – 2 hours stirring it occasionally. You will see the mixture continue to darken in colour.
Once 8 – 11 hours has passed you can then take the mixture and pour it over a strainer into the Tupperware container. You will want to press the mixture through the strainer with your spoon as shown, this will allow you to get the most butter possible.
Once all of the butter has been strained, take the Tupperware container and place it in the fridge for a few hours until solidified.
Once solid take the container out of the fridge and separate the butter from the water which will be at the bottom.
This will leave you with a nice brick of weed butter to bake with. Enjoy your pot brownies, edibles, or teas with your homemade marijuana butter.

Boiling water is 212 degrees Fahrenheit and FULLY decarboxylates the cannabis! Please, DO NOT cook cannabis in the oven! It only burns it with dry heat causing an unpleasant taste. Boiling water is moist heat and does not burn the cannabis. The oil itself is also moist heat and gently decarboxylates the cannabis instead of harshly burning it with dry oven heat!
