Marijuana, also known as cannabis, weed, pot and various other names is a preparation of the cannabis plant intended for use as a psychoactive drug or medicine. It is often consumed for mental a physical effects, such as heightened mood, relaxation, an increase in appetite and pain relief. The possible side effects include, a decrease in short term memory, dry mouth, impaired motor skills and feelings of paranoia or anxiety. As of 2015, the debate on the legalization of marijuana is being taken more seriously, and change may be coming very soon.

Number 1.
George Washington grew hemp on his farm.
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 and was one of the founding fathers of the united states of america and the first ever US president to serve the country. He always kept accurate diaries and in one of the entry’s, he wrote, ‘Sowed hemp at muddy hole by swamp’ and in another entry he wrote, ‘Began to separate the male from female plants.’ which indicates he was going for female plants with higher THC content. It was also indicated that he used hemp preparations to deal with his tooth aches. 11 other presidents since have also been reported to have used or smoked Marijuana. (JKF, Obama)

North Korea or the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, is one of the most controlled countries in the world and considered a totalitarian dictatorship. However, did you know that it is completely legal to smoke and grow cannabis there, in fact, weed isn’t even considered a drug by them. Additionally, according to NK news, they receive numerous reports of marijuana plants growing freely along the roadsides.

In 2008, a homeless man named Fate Vincent Winslow, was trying to get together some money for food. Six months later, a jury found him guilty of distribution of a schedule 1 substance and a judge sentenced him to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. A short documentary called Charlotte’s web and Zaki’s Journey tells the stories of 2 paediatric cannabis patients, both are children and both suffer with severe epilepsy. Charlotte suffered from strokes lasting from 20 to 30 minutes, with the longest lasting 4 hours. Her mother and doctors tried many different medications but none worked. When all hope seemed lost, another doctor recommended to give CBD oil a try. Charlotte went from having a seizer every 15 minutes, to 7 days of no seizers. Zaki at his worst would have 200 seizers an hour, the medication he was on made him gain a lot of weight, and didn’t help his condition. But with the daily cannabis treatment, his mother reports going 106 days since his last seizer, at the time of recording the documentary.

According to a study conducted by Cato in 2010, The legalization of cannabis in the USA would generate 8.7 billion dollars in federal and state tax revenue a year.
