Federal Cannabis Legalization News June 2023

#Federal #Cannabis #Legalization News June 2023
Cannabis legalization is a hot topic across the world. In recent news, Mexico and Canada have both passed legislation that will legalize recreational use of cannabis. The move marks the first time in history that two of North America’s largest countries have taken such action to regulate the drug’s use.

Other countries and regions are taking notice and considering their own measures for legalizing marijuana. In Europe, Switzerland recently declared its intention to allow limited sale of cannabis in pharmacies starting in 2021. Meanwhile, South Africa is looking set to become the second African country (after Lesotho) to legalize medical marijuana.

These moves come after decades of criminalization and social stigma surrounding the drug – both as a recreational substance and medicine. With these new laws, advocates believe more research can be conducted into potential medical uses for cannabis, which could lead to further breakthroughs in treatment and therapy.

Bipartisan Statehouse bill would legalize marijuana in Ohio

Ohioans 21 and older would be able to cultivate, purchase and possess marijuana if a bipartisan bill passes in the Ohio Statehouse.

State Reps. Jamie Callender (R-Concord Township) and Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) introduced House Bill 168 — also known as the Ohio Adult Use Act — earlier this month. The bill would also allow conviction records for prior cultivation and possession offenses to be expunged.

“Adult-use is good for our economy, good for our justice system, and the right thing to do,” Weinstein said in a news release. “Ohioans are ready to legalize cannabis.”

HB 168 would put a 10% sales tax on adult-use cannabis products. Researchers at Ohio State University estimate the potential annual tax revenue generated from adult-use cannabis in Ohio ranges from $276 million to $374 million in year five of an operational adult-use cannabis market.

Inside New Jersey’s Legal Weed Boom

As marijuana legalization spreads, states are looking at different ways to ensure those most affected by decades of racially biased anti-drug policies have a leg up.

Under a special program, New Jersey prioritizes granting licenses to dispensaries run by people with marijuana convictions on their records.

Lawmakers hope that by making equity a cornerstone of their newly legalized markets, those who dealt marijuana in the illegal, or “legacy,” market will be persuaded to go legit.

Federal Legalization News | Cannabis Legalizations News

The news of federal cannabis legalization is sweeping the nation, bringing with it a tidal wave of optimism and enthusiasm. Many stakeholders in the marijuana industry have been eagerly awaiting this moment and are now celebrating the long-awaited move to legalize at the federal level.

This historic change comes as part of the broader effort to reform marijuana laws across the country and end the War on Drugs. As part of this effort, President Joe Biden has proposed a sweeping package of pardons for those with marijuana convictions, which will help pave the way for individuals to heal from generations of criminalization.

The Schumer legalization bill in the US Senate is a key component of the larger effort to reform marijuana laws nationwide. The bill, introduced by Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), would remove cannabis from the list of Schedule I drugs, thereby decriminalizing it and allowing states to regulate it as they see fit. It would also expunge federal.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has labeled tetrahydrocannabinol (THC-o), a synthetic psychoactive derived from hemp, as a Schedule I substance under the Controlled Substances Act. This designation places THC-o in the same category as heroin, LSD and ecstasy and makes it illegal to possess or use.

New York Agrees To Legalize Recreational Marijuana | NBC News NOW

Medical Marijuana for Beginners (Part 1): Finding Your "Just Right" Dose

Today Tim and Black discuss how to go about finding Your “Just Right” Dose. More important than medical marijuana strain or delivery is getting your dosage perfect. Today we show you how!

Thanks for tuning in to part two of the second episode of Discover Marijuana with Tim & Blake, brought to you by https://utahmarijuana.org and https://zionmedicinal.com,

After years of marijuana research, many states in the US have rolled out legalization programs, whether medical or recreational/adult use. In Utah, marijuana was legalized for medicinal use in March 2020, and the beautiful friendship between your hosts, Tim Pickett, a QMP in Utah and founder of Utahmarijuana.org, and Blake Smith, Chief Scientific Officer of Zion Medicinal, was born.

Before you jump right into Medical Marijuana treatment, it’s important to understand not only how marijuana works, but also how to use marijuana effectively as medicine. To help you better understand this, Tim will tackle the medicine side, while Blake will break down the science behind marijuana and how it works to treat a variety of ailments.

Without the proper Medical Marijuana dosage and treatment plan from a provider, a new patient could encounter negative marijuana effects, like feeling disoriented, anxious, or “too high.” Many providers will give their Medical Marijuana patients a CBD dosage to combat some of the undesirable marijuana side effects, as CBD can act as a buffer to some of the psychoactivity that comes with its THC counterpart. For more about CBD and THC, visit utahmarijuana.org, your #1 source for all things cannabis in Utah. While you’re there, take some time to study up on Utah Marijuana laws and look into getting a Utah Medical Marijuana Card.

Subscribe to Discover Marijuana to make sure you don’t miss an episode. You can also find these videos on the https://utahmarijuana.org blog and https://zionmedicinal.com.

Marijuana: Why the drug became illegal, and the future of legalization | USA TODAY

Here’s what you need to know about the future of marijuana legalization in the United States, from its racist beginnings to today.
RELATED: https://bit.ly/3nivTCz

TRENTON, N.J. – New Jersey legislators have passed landmark bills which, if signed into law, will allow New Jerseyans to possess, buy and sell — with taxes levied — marijuana for adult use next year.

After weeks of negotiations and years of debate, the state Legislature is voting on two pieces of “enabling” legislation designed to turn New Jersey voters’ wishes to legalize marijuana into reality.

Marijuana users would be allowed to possess up to 6 ounces of weed without penalty under a decriminalization bill, while the other sets up the framework of a license and tax structure for the purchase and sale of legal weed.

The tax and licensure bill passed the Senate by a 23 to 17 vote and the Assembly by a 49 to 24 vote with six abstentions. It now heads to Gov. Phil Murphy’s desk to become law.

Is Marijuana Legalization Inevitable In The US?

Every ballot initiative involving the decriminalization or legalization of marijuana passed in the 2020 election. The Democratic-controlled House also passed the MORE Act in early December, which would legalize marijuana at the federal level and implement sweeping regulations surrounding the drug. These developments reveal something important about the shift in the marijuana debate: Marijuana may be one of the truly bipartisan issues in the U.S. right now.

2:23 – History of marijuana in the U.S.
6:37 – State vs federal law disconnect

CORRECTION (January 4, 2021): At 0:55 and 6:31, the map mislabels the legality of recreational marijuana in Illinois. The state has legalized marijuana for both recreational and medical use. At 12:20, a graphic used an incorrect photo to identify Alaska Rep. Don Young.
