Depending on how you ingest cannabis, your body is going to feel different effects and for different periods of time. If you ingest cannabis by smoking or vaporizing you’re actually going to feel the effects of cannabis right away, probably within anywhere between 30 to 90 seconds. Now, this can be good for people who need pain relief right away, but it’s also a good way to see how much cannabis you want to consume. You can take a small inhalation and wait a few minutes and see what the effects are before you take more. Now for people who need longer lasting effect of cannabis, they find that eating it actually stays in their body longer, and they can feel those side effects of inflammation relief or pain relief. They’re going to feel that longer. And so people either choose to either make butters or oils and put into their food.

Now, with eating cannabis, it actually takes anywhere from, it could take like 45 minutes all the way up to an hour for you to feel the effects. And so people often eat too much cannabis and then they feel unwanted side effects. For some people they feel a raciness of the mind. They can even feel paranoid or frightened. And if you’re using medical cannabis and this happens, it’s a good thing to have someone near you or have someone you can call. And just know that it’s going to go away. Know that the longest that you’re going to be in that state is going to be a few hours. And so, you know, be careful about the amount you’re going to take so you don’t get to that state, but you should also feel comfortable in knowing that that’s the worst that’s going to happen. So it’s my suggestion that if you’re going to try to eat cannabis to really take some time during your week to figure out just how it’s going to affect you. And again, if you are inhaling it you’re going to feel it right away. If you’re eating it it’s going to take a while, but it’s also going to last longer.

Now, another form of ingestion are tinctures, which are a liquid form of cannabis where you use alcohol usually as a base or glycerin to pull the compounds out of the plant. And taking cannabis in this way you’re going to feel the same side effects as eating cannabis and it’s going to take almost as long to kick in.

Cannabutter extraction technique

Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
½ cup water (add more water at any time if needed)
¼ oz ground weed

Steps
1. Add ½ cup of water and 2 sticks (½ lb) of butter in a saucepan and bring to a simmer on low to medium heat. Adding water helps to regulate the temperature and prevents the butter from scorching. As butter begins to melt, add in ground weed.
2. Maintain low heat and let the mixture simmer for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally. Make sure the mixture never comes to a full boil.
3. Pour the hot mixture into a glass container, using a cheesecloth to strain out all ground weed from the butter mixture. Squeeze or press the plant material to get as much liquid out of the weed as possible. Discard leftover weed.
4. Cover and refrigerate remaining liquid overnight or until the butter is fully hardened. Once hardened, the butter will separate from the water, allowing you to lift the cannabutter out of the container. Discard remaining water after removing the hardened cannabutter.

Mac and Cheese recipe

Ingredients
1 lb. macaroni
¼ cup cannabutter (½ stick)
¼ cup flour
2 cups half & half
1/2 cup of each cheese – gruyere, smoked cheddar, and smoked gouda
8 oz cream cheese
1 Tbsp smoked paprika
Pinch of salt and pepper
1 cup Panko breadcrumbs

Steps
1. Heavily salt a large pot of water and bring to a boil. Add pasta and cook for about 7 minutes, or until slightly less than al dente. Drain in a colander and let cool.
2. Preheat oven to 375°F.
3. Grate or chop the gruyere, smoked cheddar, and smoked gouda cheeses into cubes and set aside.
4. Add the butter to a large pot and melt over low to medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and saute for 3-5 minutes.
5. Add the flour to the butter, onion, and garlic mixture and stir constantly over low to medium heat for 2 minutes, or until the mixture starts to turn a slightly darker color.
6. Whisk in the cream, then add the gruyere, smoked cheddar, and smoked gouda, stirring constantly until the cheese is melted.
7. Add the cream cheese, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir for 2-3 minutes or until the sauce appears silky and smooth.
8. Add the cooked macaroni and stir to combine thoroughly.
9. Transfer to a deep casserole dish (8”x8” or similar) and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are bubbly and the top is golden brown.

This has been my primary mix for years. I have added things and taken things away as new products have hit the market.

The best way to prove if something works or not is to take it away from the soil and see if plant shows signs of stress or negative change.

The only change as of lately is I substituted Sunshine #4 and mix it in at the rate of 50/50 for veg and then top off with 25% more Ocean Forest when I toss them in bloom.

If you want that earthy flavor Ocean Forest is where it is at. Only issue is it has poor drainage. I have found the more synthetic the nutrients used the higher the Ocean Forest ratio needs to be to maintain flavor.
