Democratic Debate: Bernie Sanders Pledges to Legalize Marijuana on Day One

Bernie Sanders absorbed an onslaught from all six rivals at Tuesday night’s debate as the Democratic presidential candidates faced off in their last encounter before a crucial round of primaries that will likely set the course for the rest of the race.

Elizabeth Warren accused Sanders of stealing details of her health-care plan. Michael Bloomberg said Russia’s intelligence services favor the Vermont senator because Vladimir Putin wants President Donald Trump to be re-elected. Joe Biden criticized Sanders’ past stances on gun control.

Sanders has taken over as the front-runner in the Democratic race and the debate in Charleston, South Carolina, was a chance for the other six candidates to try and stall his momentum.

“I’ve been hearing my name mentioned a little bit tonight,” Sanders said.

Warren, who has generally refrained from attacking her fellow progressive in previous debates, suggested Sanders has good ideas but hasn’t offered details about how he’d accomplish his goals.

“Bernie and I agree on a lot of things, but I think I would make a better president than Bernie,” Warren said. “And the reason for that is that getting a progressive agenda enacted is going to be really hard, and it’s going to take someone who digs into the details to make it happen.”

But most of the candidates spent almost as much time focused on Bloomberg, who has been rising in national polls as he’s spent more than $500 million on advertising.

(Bloomberg is the founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, the parent company of Bloomberg News.)

Warren renewed her attacks on Bloomberg over non-disclosure agreements signed by women who’ve complained of sexual harassment at his company. Bloomberg said last week that he’s willing to release women from three non-disclosure agreements related to offensive comments they say he made, but Warren called on him to sign a blanket release for anyone who has an NDA. #DemocraticDebate #BernieSanders #Marijuana

The former New York mayor dismissed Warren’s criticism.

“I don’t know what else she wants us to do,” Bloomberg said. “The trouble is with this senator, enough is never enough.”

Warren referred to one of the NDAs concerning a woman who filed a complaint in 1995 alleging that Bloomberg told her to “kill it” when she told him she was pregnant.

Bloomberg replied, “I never said, period, end of story. Categorically never said it.”

From the opening moment, the debate was a brawl, with Bloomberg responding to a question about the economy by saying that Putin wants to see Trump stay in the office and has been helping Sanders online because he wants to see Sanders lose to Trump.

“Let me tell Mr. Putin, I’m not a good friend of President Xi of China,” Sanders retorted in a reference to comments Bloomberg has made about the Chinese leader. “Hey Mr. Putin, if I’m president of the United States, you’re not going to interfere in” U.S. elections, he said.

Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg and Tom Steyer joined in going after Sanders, saying he’s unrealistic and hasn’t accomplished much in all his years in Congress. Klobuchar also faulted Warren.

“It matters if you can actually get things done,” Klobuchar said.

Buttigieg said nominating Sanders will lead to Republicans controlling Congress. The Democrats who helped win the House majority in 2018 are running from Sanders’s plan “as fast” as they can.

“I’ll tell you what it adds up to, it adds up four more years of Donald Trump,” Buttigieg said. “It’s time for us to stop talking like the presidency is the only office that mattered.”

When the topic turned to foreign policy, Sanders faced questions about his past statements, including those in a “60 Minutes” interview Sunday in which he praised Fidel Castro’s literacy programs. Sanders said he’s consistently opposed authoritarian regimes but recognized that sometimes those governments accomplish good things.

He said that former President Barack Obama had noted that “Cuba made progress on education” and other areas, and that he was doing the same.

That prompted an attack from Buttigieg, who said Democrats won’t win elections by “telling people to look at the bright side of the Castro regime.”

Can Marijuana Help AIDS Patients? | Marijuana

Watch more Marijuana Facts & Medical Marijuana videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/506381-Can-Marijuana-Help-AIDS-Patients-Marijuana

It’s been shown in numerous studies that marijuana or cannabis can be useful as a therapeutic treatment for patients who live with HIV/AIDS. One study that they did at Columbia, they had AIDS patients in a hospital, inpatient hospital, and they found out that if they used marijuana, that they got from a government source, they were able to eat more calories and gain more weight at the end of the study, compared to people who were using a placebo marijuana. And that’s very important for people who have AIDS. They often suffer from wasting syndromes.

Secondly, AIDS patients have to take varied medicines that upset the stomach quite a bit, and highly active antiretrovirals, or heart medicines. There was a study at Stanford, by Dr. Israelsky’s group, that showed that if you used cannabis or marijuana, you had a much higher adherence rate to those antiretroviral drugs. Two to four times higher rate to keep taking those drugs on a routine basis. Which is very important if you are trying to suppress a virus which is really prone to become resistant and adapt. So you have to keep the regiment on. So that’s very useful.

Dr. Donald Abrams in U.C. San Francisco has shown that AIDS patients, HIV/AIDS patients developed this painful nerve, burning sensation in their legs, called HIV Sensory Neuropathy. It’s like a burning sensation. And we don’t have any good drugs to treat it. It turns out the drug that we have the best evidence for in medicine to treat it with is marijuana, hands down. And it’s a growing problem as more and more people are living with longer lives. Because the drugs are becoming more available and HIV/AIDS turns into a chronic disease.

So treatment of burning pain sensations, boosting your appetite, and helping gain weight, helping maintain your adherence to your antiretroviral drugs are all benefits that marijuana can afford to the HIV/AIDS patient. And Dr. Abrams, the cancer and AIDS specialist at San Francisco, says that it also helps with their mood. Living with a terminal in some cases or chronic illness can be something that causes quite a bit of adjustment and depression problems. And marijuana has been shown to be helpful with boosting moods.

So that’s the story behind marijuana and AIDS. Without AIDS activists medical marijuana wouldn’t have really been a reality. Because they really pushed in California in the 1990’s to help get laws passed that allowed patients with conditions like AIDS to use it for compassionate purposes. And the federal government actually stopped their program supplying marijuana to patients on a case by case basis when they were flooded with AIDS applications. So that’s why part of why we have medical marijuana today.

Marijuana & Cancer | Marijuana

Watch more Marijuana Facts & Medical Marijuana videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/506380-Marijuana-and-Cancer-Marijuana

There’s a lot of excitement in the world of cancer research about the compounds that naturally occur in marijuana as a treatment for various tumors. There’s a research group out of Spain, led by a Dr. Guzman. And his group actually did one of the first human studies that documented in a group of really severe, late stage brain tumor patients that if you injected their brain tumors directly with a solution that contains THC, one of the compounds in cannabis, that you can actually observe through scans a reduction in the size of those brain tumors. That was in a group of less than 15 patients. But it was a pilot study and it was a very exciting result, that in the majority of those patients tumors shrunk. But they kind of expected that as their hypothesis because they had seen so much data from their petri dishes and their animal studies that these tumors can shrink. Especially these tumors of the brain called glioblastomas, a very debilitating tumor in the brain, that has a very low survival rate.

So the more we study, we find out that breast cancers, prostate cancers, lung cancers, a whole range of tumors in the body have been shown in animal studies and petri dish studies to be reduced and attacked by chemicals in marijuana. Usually the chemicals in marijuana do this by making those cancer cells kill themselves, reducing the blood supply to those cancers, and reducing the amount of, how those cancers spread in other parts of the body. So there are cancer groups calling for the inclusion of the chemicals of marijuana in chemotherapy regimens as a treatment for cancer. That’s very interesting and exciting future there.

And I think there are a lot of natural compounds that have anticancer properties. And I think cannabis is going to go right in there as one of those ones that can potentially be useful for a lot of different cancers.

More research needs to be done. But the research that has done is extremely promising. And even the National Cancer Institute, which is an NIH branch, has information on their website for doctors documenting all of these anticancer properties that I’ve described.

Jessica Robinson-Papp, MD: Medical Marijuana for Neurologic Conditions

In recent years, with the legalization of medical marijuana in a number of states, the interest in developing and researching marijuana for medical purposes has increased. However, challenges persist for the physicians who are trying to do so. Federal laws tightly regulate marijuana’s use and make it difficult for studies to be conducted and for trials to be planned, and the diversity in marijuana laws has created a non-standardized situation for those who practice within states where its use is legal.

Jessica Robinson-Papp, MD, MS, professor of neurology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, is one of the physicians with an interest in medical marijuana and its potential uses. At the 2019 American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she gave a presentation to help inform those who were interested about the laws, the current evidence for its efficacy, and the obstacles which complicate the situation.

In an exchange with NeurologyLive, Robinson-Papp spoke about what’s currently known about its use across a spectrum of conditions like epilepsy, neuropathic pain, and multiple sclerosis; how cannabidiol (CBD) fits into the conversation; and what still needs to be done to have a real understanding of marijuana’s place in medicine.

Flushing indoor T5 Lemon Jack marijuana grow – Prep for harvest

Flushing marijuana plants prior to harvest is said to remove the salts and nutrients from the flowers and produce a smoother burning end product. This should be done in conjunction with a harvest BEFORE sunrise (or start of light cycle) for the same reason, to reduce nutrients in the flower at harvest time. Leaves may yellow after flushing and comments are appreciated on your experiences. This is a Jack Herer / Lemon Kush hydrid that was pollinated by a hermied Krumb Cake. All 18 seeds sprouted and were male, 8 have been harvested thus far using outdoor winter flowering in southern CA. These were planted on 9/19/2019. Flower cycle began December 8th with an extended day of darkness.

Canada and Cannabis: In the Wake of Legalization

In the last Federal election (2015), Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada vowed to legalize recreational cannabis. This promise is soon to become reality as the Canadian government has proposed to move forward with legalization to July 2018. Along with a change in legislature comes sizeable public opposition from people who are afraid that legalizing cannabis will carry unintended consequences. This video demystifies unfounded conjecture surrounding the topic of cannabis legalization. It uses peer-reviewed evidence from jurisdictions that have either already legalized recreational cannabis use or have evaluated the use of cannabis and its associated outcomes. The video informs about the impacts, both positive and negative, of cannabis use in Canada’s new age of drug legalization.
