Transcript – Well I think that what’s happening now is a transformational moment here in American culture. I think the fact that the majority of Americans now support marijuana legalization is a huge win for civilization, for mankind, I mean for American society. It’s like not just for the sort of limitless medicinal potential that cannabis has. You know cannabinoids have been shown now to even like shrink tumors. I mean it’s an unbelievably therapeutically active substance. But also for the simple issue of cognitive liberty, right. Sort of a country that is founded on the principles of free thought and the idea that everybody should be able to think what they want to think and do what they want to do as long as they’re not hurting anybody else. And this is, you know, nowhere more exemplified than in the right to choose a marijuana joint over a martini if that’s what floats your boat. Also, marijuana consciousness as Rich Doyle writes is extraordinarily sensitive to the initial rhetorical conditions. You know, Leary’s ubiquitous set and setting to the point that there is no drug by itself. There is the context in which the drug is taken. And so when you change the cultural context in which people are able to have marijuana you change the particular flavor of marijuana consciousness.

You start eliminating the association with criminality and the paranoia and the fear of getting caught and instead you create a canvas where people can smoke a joint before going to a boutique movie theater to have a very increased cinematic immersion. Or you can create spaces where people can maybe vaporize some cannabis before going and listening to a symphony orchestra. Or maybe they can go on these beautiful sort of guided marijuana hikes where the set and setting would be curated for a particular marijuana flavor. I mean it’s almost like the notion being that intention, you know, you change the intention, you change the stage and that intention could actually transform the subjective experience that people have when they participate in the use of cannabis. And, you know, it’s just very exciting because I think that we’re going to see new forms of entertainment, new forms of sort of – new cultural spaces for people to partake in what they’ve been doing for hundreds of thousands of years which is altering our consciousness whether it’s through external technologies or internal technologies. I mean mindfulness, meditation, rave concerts, you know, Burning Man, theater. [transcript truncated]

Meet two of my cannabis heroes, Don E. Wirthshafter and Mike Bifari. Both are very strong personalities that are helping the Nasa Indians in Colombia. Google them to see what I mean. I love that cannabis is at the base of Don and Mike’s work!

Maribel, Marino and Victor are Nasa Indians that are growing a new commercial crop, cannabis. They are growing more cannabis and fewer coca plants which are used to make cocaine. Cannabis is replacing coca as a cash crop.

Colombian President, Juan Manuel Santos, was awarded Nobel Peace Prize in 2016 for stopping 50 years of bloody war between guerillas, including FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia) and paramilitary death squads that claimed more than 220,000 lives and displaced more than 6 million people.

This video was shot in the Cauca Valley Colombia, located in the “Cordillera Occidental de los Andes.” The gardens I visited are located from 1,700-2,100 meters (5,500-6,900 feet) in elevation.

This is the first in a series of video reports on cannabis growing in Colombia.

“Michele Leonhart, the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration, has a message for those considering legalizing marijuana: Please, think of Fido.

Testifying on the DEA budget during a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing on Wednesday, Leonhart said she expected a number of things to happen after Washington and Colorado were allowed to go forward with the legalization of marijuana last year. What she didn’t anticipate was the impact on man’s best friend.

“There was just an article last week, and it was on pets. It was about the unanticipated or unexpected consequences of this, and how veterinarians now are seeing dogs come in, their pets come in, and being treated because they’ve been exposed to marijuana,” Leonhart said.”

Even in legal states, many marijuana consumers purchase their marijuana from the black market because they don’t want to go through the process to get a medical marijuana card. Some legal states, like California, have a simple process to receive a medical marijuana card though, so there are many positives and negatives to getting a medical marijuana card.

Many marijuana consumers get medical cards because they provide extra protection to patients and marijuana businesses. Marijuana is still illegal on the federal level even though many states provide medical and recreational cannabis, so a medical card affords legal protection for patients under the state’s marijuana laws. A medical marijuana card can also help consumers save money depending on the state, because some have established tax benefits for those with medical cards. Medical patients purchase marijuana for a cheaper price than recreational users, so there are many positives to getting medical marijuana cards. The process to actually get a medical marijuana card isn’t always simple though, so many consumers and patients don’t bother getting cards.

This is an update of my indoor legal medical marijuana garden on day 20 flowering. I am using colloidal silver to spray my female GDP plant so it produces pollen instead of female flowers. This pollen will be crossed with another female GDP cultivar, as well as with 10 other strains for F1 hybrid crosses.

The purpose of making seeds is to preserve my favorite genetics for future use so I don’t have to keep so many plants, as well as to create new crosses with hopes of something magical happening. These seeds are NOT for sale, trade and no I will not send any out. Please don’t ask.

Strains include: Mendo Grape Kush, Trainwreck (Arcata cut), Candyland, GDP, Racefuel OG, Ogiesel, Tangie #5, Tangie #3, Harlequin and Black Cherry Soda.

Marijuana has several different effects on the body. If you’re using it medically you should prepare yourself for some side effects. For some people these side effects are mild, but if you don’t know that they’re happening they can be a little frightening. Some of them are pretty basic and maybe ones that you’ve heard about through pop culture or subcultures that use cannabis.

First is your eyes get red. The cannabis in your system actually is opening up capillaries, so it produces an effect of red eyes. This is something that’s not permanent. It’ll go away. Some Visine will clear it right up. It can be uncomfortable, so you may want to have Visine near your medicine when you take it.

Another side effect is dry mouth which is also not permanent. You can just have water near you and it will clear up that side effect right away.

Depending on the type of cannabis you are using, you may feel drowsy or tired. For some people this is the desired effect. For other people cannabis can kind of wake you up. It has a lot to do with the strain that you’re taking.

No one has ever overdosed on medical cannabis. In fact, scientists have tried to find out how much cannabis it would take to kill someone. And I know people want to volunteer for this study. In laboratories they have tried to give rats 40,000 times the dose that you would take. So, it would be you and your friends sitting around within an hour and smoking 40,000 joints. The rats did not die. In fact, they just slept for three days. Again, all medications have side effects that you should be worried about, but at least with this one you know you’re not going to die.

You should be careful about operating heavy machinery and driving. Use this like you would use any other controlled substance. Make sure that you are self monitoring and knowing you’re using this medicine as safely as possible.

As far as long term side effects it depends on which scientist you want to listen to. But one thing we know is that scientists say over and over that cannabis does not cause cancer. Again, every year there are new studies on aspirin. So, if you’re looking at medical cannabis as a treatment one of the things you’re going to have to do is stay up to date on the science as it comes out. But, as of right now there’s more research showing that cannabis is a positive substance for controlling symptoms of various conditions and less information that it could harm you.

There is a set of scientific data that is a little concerning to my organization as well as scientists and doctors who use medical cannabis in their practice. That is research around schizophrenia. However, there’s no research that shows that people who weren’t already predisposed to schizophrenia that cannabis will somehow cause that disorder in their mind. But for people who have schizophrenia or are likely to have schizopherenia cannabis has been known to set off psychotic episodes. So if you have schizophrenia or if it runs in your family you should really talk to your doctor about whether or not cannabis is the right choice for you in your treatment.
