Canada launches review of country’s cannabis legalization

The Canadian federal government announced on Thursday that an independent panel of experts would be reviewing the impact of the country’s cannabis legalization on public health, youth consumption, and Indigenous persons and communities.

Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said the review was being broadened, however, to examine whether legal cannabis has also made progress in displacing the illegal black market. The review will also take a look at the economic, social and environmental impacts of legalization.

The panel will be led by Morris Rosenberg — a lawyer by background. He also previously served as deputy minister of justice, health and foreign affairs.

The other four members of the panel have not been announced yet. The group plans to hear from the public, governments, Indigenous Peoples, youth, marginalized and racialized communities, cannabis industry representatives and medical cannabis users. Experts in health, substance use, criminal justice and law enforcement will also be consulted. They will have to return with their conclusions within 18 months.

Marijuana edibles: Everything you need to know

In a second wave of recreational legalization in Canada, cannabis edibles will be permitted for legal sale no later than Oct. 17, 2019, Health Canada has confirmed. And the market is up for grabs.

The edibles industry is expected to be worth $4.1 billion in Canada and the United States by 2022, according to a report by a marijuana market research company called The Arcview.

As of now, in Canada, you can make cannabis-infused food at home but it is illegal for anyone to buy and or sell them to the public.

Canada’s proposed edible pot regulations have been published by Health Canada and the 60-day consultation process has come to an end. The public health agency is now reviewing the responses.

Justin Trudeau speaks about pot pardon process as marijuana legalized in Canada

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018 that the pardon process for people who received sentences for simple marijuana possession would be “simplified” and free.

He said legalization was needed because the previous prohibition wasn’t working and more young Canadians were using marijuana illegally.

He added when asked if he would use marijuana now that it’s legalized that he has no intention of doing so.

Cannabis Legalization In Canada Is NOT What You Think! – Here’s The TRUTH

Josh Sigurdson reports from the mountains of British Columbia, Canada on the rollout of marijuana legalization as Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government maps out their cannabis regulatory complex.

We talk to Chad Jackett of Grass Roots Medicinal, Liberty Farms and The Cannabis Growers of Canada on his farm North of Whistler about being self sustainable, the quality of privately grown cannabis versus the LP product, how cannabis gets from farm, to dispensary, to the table and of course the situation with legalization.

Chad, being a true free market business owner has worked hard to provide an incredible product which helps countless people in need of medical marijuana. With the new legalization agenda, small businesses will be unable to compete in the market in most cases due to heavy government regulation, taxation and therefor monopolization of a few major corporations, most notably those entrenched in Big Pharma.

Legalization is simply government taking away a right and giving it back at a price and that price is regulation and theft.

Well, speaking of those regulations, they include a possible 14 year prison sentence for transfering buds. For selling to someone under 18. For growing or carrying more than the legal limit. That isn’t an end to prohibition, that’s prohibition times ten with a government revenue complex.

The taxes are $1 a gram and the quality of government, LP cannabis is terrible. Not to mention irradiated.

From Chad, we go to Grass Roots Medicinal in Squamish, British Columbia to talk with Molly Schneider about her experience working in the business, how important a free and open market is in the cannabis industry and the patients she gets to help in her day to day work.

This is an extensive issue that doesn’t just stop at “legalization” but cannot be settled on for less. No one should ever settle for less than true freedom. Freedom of the individual. The freedom of individual demand. Not the coercion of the state as the public apathetically bows down with the chains they revere accepting further state servitude and propaganda.

Stay tuned as we continue to cover this issue!
