Some parents are turning to cannabidiol (CBD) oil, a cannabis extract with little or none of the psychoactive compound THC, to treat their children who have cancer and epilepsy. The oil is currently legal in more than a dozen U.S. states, but the supply is limited. The science also lags the law—dosing standards haven’t been set, and the effects of long-term use are unclear. Many doctors believe that more research is needed. In “Cannabis for Kids” a few parents share their experiences navigating the uncertainties of medical marijuana in America as they try to help their children.

Marijuana THC vs CBD, CBG, CBN: What’s the difference? What are health benefits of each?

Cannabis, also known as hemp or marijuana, has a long history of human use. But lately, the buzz around this plant — and the cannabinoids within it — has increased.

Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are just two of the many compounds found in cannabis. What’s the difference between them and other popular cannabinoids and how can humans benefit from this ancient plant?

Industrial hemp and marijuana are the same species, known as cannabis sativa, but here’s the major difference: marijuana has a higher amount of THC, the high-inducing chemical that gets you high. The amount of THC in industrial hemp is so small that the body doesn’t have the same reaction.

Karli Miller-Hornick, co-founder and CEO of Head & Heal, a CBD producer and hemp cultivator in Cortland, New York offered further explanation. “An industrial hemp plant is identified as a plant that produces less than 0.3 percent THC. A normal marijuana plant has about 15 to 20 percent THC in it and sometimes these days you see them up to 25 or 30 percent.”

So, what are the health benefits associated with cannabinoid therapy? Dr. Scott L. Treatman a medical marijuana provider in New York and Florida said, “Taking a full spectrum CBD or THC product can help the human body’s endocannabinoid system reach and maintain homeostasis.”

Homeostasis is a part of our physiology and how we keep ourselves in balance. “Sometimes when we are out of balance, adding a plant cannabinoid can help with mood, appetite, emotion, digestion, inflammation and even immunity,” he added.

The video above explains more fascinating information about cannabis and how it can affect your body:

• Are there other plants that contain cannabinoids?
• How does the endocannabinoid system work?
• How is cannabis processed and extracted?
• What is the entourage effect?
• What are terpenes?
• What are the health benefits you can achieve by taking CBD, CBG, and CBN?

If you are thinking about trying cannabinoid therapy, Miller-Hornick recommends consulting with your doctor first. She says there can be different interactions with medications an individual is taking.

“It takes about a week to start noticing any kind of difference, and we generally recommend taking CBD every single day for a month before making a judgment as to whether or not it works for you,” she added.

2-Minute Neuroscience: CBD

CBD is one of a class of compounds known as cannabinoids, which are found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC (the main psychoactive component of cannabis), CBD is not thought to have intoxicating effects. It is, however, believed to interact with the nervous system. In this video, I discuss what we know about CBD’s mechanism of action and its potential in treating various conditions like epilepsy and anxiety.

TRANSCRIPT:

CBD is one of a class of compounds known as cannabinoids, which are found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC (the main psychoactive component of cannabis) CBD is not thought to have intoxicating effects. It is, however, believed to interact with the nervous system, which may enable it to modulate the effects of thc as well as have actions of its own.

CBD is chemically similar to THC, but it does not have the same mechanism of action, and some evidence suggests it may even interfere with some of the actions of THC. One way it may do this is by binding to receptors that THC binds to known as CB1 receptors, but instead of activating them, causing a change in the receptor that reduces THC’s ability to interact with it. This type of effect is known as negative allosteric modulation, and it may enable CBD to mitigate some of the adverse effects of THC, like anxiety. Other research, however, suggests CBD can enhance certain effects of THC, and CBD is also thought to act at a number of other targets besides the CB1 receptor. For example, CBD is believed to activate serotonin receptors and may increase levels of a natural cannabinoid called anandamide by blocking anandamide reuptake and inhibiting the enzymatic breakdown of anandamide. Overall, although a number of targets for CBD have been identified, its mechanism of action is still poorly understood.

CBD is generally well-tolerated, but some have raised concerns about the need for more research before we can be confident about its safety in all populations. CBD, however, is not thought to have potential for abuse, and some believe it does have potential for treating a number of conditions, like anxiety, insomnia, and pain. But most of these claims don’t yet have strong evidence to support them, and more research is needed, although CBD has been found to be a viable treatment for at least some types of epilepsy.

What Do Different Marijuana Strains Do? Shopping for Medical Marijuana Part 2 | Discover Marijuana

What strain should you buy when you go to a Medical Marijuana dispensary? Today on Discover Marijuana, we are going to talk about what strains of Medical Cannabis might be right for your condition.

If you want to schedule a time to meet with a QMP to get your Medical Marijuana Card in Utah please visit us at: https://utahmarijuana.org.

Different strains can do different things when trying to treat medical conditions. Some products do not have the compounds that differentiate strains and others do. When it comes to selecting the right product you need to know what you are looking for and what is in your product.

What questions do you have about the different medical marijuana strains?

We know that medical cannabis is new to most of us and that many of us have questions. Even though CBD has been widely accepted across the country, many are still left wondering about it. Discover Marijuana is all about getting you the information you need to dispel the myths and allow you to know the options you have when looking into plant-based medicine.

Tim Pickett, a Utah QMP and founder of http://utahmarijuana.org, meets with patients daily to recommend medical cannabis. Having a certain CBD dosage on hand as you ease into this treatment is highly recommended, especially if you are unfamiliar or made uncomfortable by the euphoric head high that comes with cannabis. CBD will help to tap that feeling down a bit.

Your other host, Blake Smith, CSO of http://zionmedicinal.com, a Utah CBD and cannabis company, has studied cannabis and the endocannabinoid system for years, and it shows. While Tim takes over how to use CBD, THC, and loads of other cannabinoids to help different ailments, Blake will explain WHY CBD works for Parkinson’s, pain, seizures, etc. for a full spectrum view of your treatment. We believe this will help patients take control of their own healthcare — something that hasn’t been possible in many other areas.

CBD and medical marijuana for FSH muscular dystrophy

From the FSHD Society’s September 2019 webinar. With the spread of legalized medical marijuana and the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill that made CBD legal in all 50 states, it’s a bit of the Wild West out there for individuals seeking relief from chronic pain, inflammation, anxiety, and a host of other symptoms that have been reported to be alleviated by CBD. What does the research say? How can consumers know what’s safe and effective? Our presenter, Jen Bernstein, is deeply knowledgeable about these issues and is an advocate for setting industry standards. She is CEO of What Heals Alland cofounder and president of the Women’s Cannabis Club, as well as former managing editor of High Times magazine. Bernstein emphasizes that she is not a physician and is simply sharing her personal observations about CBD. The information provided in this webinar should not be treated as medical advice. Anyone who is contemplating using CBD to treat symptoms is advised to consult their personal physician. For more information, visit www.fshdsociety.org

Weed-growing nuns smoke & sell marijuana to ‘heal the world’

Despite coming under threat from Californian authorities, two weed-growing nuns known as the ‘Sisters of the Valley’, continued to cultivate marijuana, which they use to make medicinal salves, tinctures and oils, at their abbey in Merced, Sunday.

Sister Kate and Sister Darcy, who began their business last year, have developed their own formula of topical cream containing drops containing Cannabidiol (CBD), which is a non-psychoactive ingredient unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

The Inside Story of Cannabidiol – What are the Benefits of CBD?

http://CBDtheInsideStory.com What is CBD oil? What are the benefits of CBD? How does CBD work? This is The Inside Story of Cannabidiol about the benefits and physiological effects of CBD on the human body. A couple of years ago a remarkable thing happened when CBD oil became legal in all 50 states. If you remove CBD from the THC coming from the cannabis plant or the hemp plant, CBD oil is now legal to use as a nutritional supplement. Since that time of course, the market for cannabis oil has exploded with interest. Truly, CBD is not just another nutritional supplement. This short conversation is going to describe the intense scientific research that is going on around the world on the benefits of CBD, or cannabidiol, and why it is so important for human physiology.

In our actual physiology where does CBD work? We are going to travel into our physiology. Right into our central nervous system. We are going to see at the level of individual cells that the cell surface is covered with these green receptors. These are receptors for CBD. When the CBD binds to that receptor it sends a message into the cell which travels all the way down into the nucleus of the cell where the intelligence of our entire physiology is contained in our chromosomes. Here a chromosome will unwind and you are going to see the DNA that contains the codes for everything that our body does. This is like the software that runs our physiology. Genes are the codes for every protein that our bodies make. Including all the signaling molecules that run our physiology. Such as our neurotransmitters that run our nervous system. Our hormones that run our endocrine system and our cytokines that run our immune system.

So we see that throughout our physiology we have receptors specifically designed to bind with cannabidiol and CBD has its effect on the nucleus of our cells where proteins are being made. Cannabidiol modulates the transcription of over 1100 genes that make the signaling molecules that naturally reduce inflammation in our central nervous system and throughout our immune system. Restoring homeostasis to both our immune and central nervous systems.

Bottom line… One of the benefits of cannabidiol is that it causes a cascade of Homeostasis through our entire central nervous system and our entire immune system. Why is this happening? As I mentioned before we have receptors in our body for CBD. This is called the endo-cannabinoid system. Back in medical school we didn’t’t even know about the endo-cannabinoid system. It was discovered in the 1990’s by Dr. Rafael Mechoulan from the Hebrew University in Israel. So the endo-cannabinoid system is a network of cells throughout our body that have receptors for CBD. In fact, there are more receptors for CBD in our body than any other kind of receptor. So the endo-cannabinoid system is truly the largest network of its kind throughout our entire physiology. Among other things Dr. Mechoulam also discovered that we make our own cannabinoids in or body. This is Anandamide and 2AG. Those two are natural cannabinoids that our bodies make and bind to our CBD receptors. Our bodies are filled with CBD receptors.

What kind of symptoms what kind of stress do all these things cause to us? If your immune system is inflamed you might be suffering from autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, inflamed bowel disease, lupus and thyroid. Or fibromyalgia or even multiple sclerosis. And you skin, psoriasis and eczema and all sorts of other chronic infections. Do you realize that many of things didn’t even exist 100 or 150 years ago. Incidences of these sorts of diseases is growing throughout the last century.

Now lets take a look at your central nervous system. If it is inflamed what types of things might you be suffering from? Brain fog, migraines, epilepsy, anxiety and PTSD, ADD, ADHD, autism and insomnia. Again, 100 or 150 years ago these kinds of symptoms, these kind of diseases where rare. If you are suffering from any of these conditions, any of these symptoms, CBD might provide you with tremendous healing, tremendous relief, right through your own natural endo-cannabinoid system that brings homeostasis both to your immune system and to your central nervous system.

In conclusion, what have we learned from this conversation? That health is achieved through physiological homeostasis right through our natural endo-cannabinoid systems. Therefore, CBD is an indispensable catalyst for optimal health.
