Again, the most important thing to remember about any psychological effects of a drug or substance that you consume that has psychologically activating properties is the huge role that psychological makeups are set and the context that it’s used in play in how it affects your own psychological makeup, your cognitive function, your mood. That’s a very big caveat. For everybody who has different expcectations, different makeups, things will affect them differently.

Interestingly, it should be noted that in the 1930’s when the American Medical Association was testifying to Congress about what the uses of marijuana are, or cannabis as they liked to call it, for medical purposes the doctor testified to Congress that cannabis was very useful for helping to bring memories back in psychotherapy, or what’s called repressed or lost memories. The doctor who testified to Congress said that this would be an invaluable tool that was being used in psychotherapy to bring back forgotten memories. That’s something that you might be surprised to hear about when people always think that marijuana use might make you forgetful or forget things when the doctors of that day were discussing the utility and helping you remember things.

That just goes to show the complexity of it. The main thing that you can see in studies when people are using marijuana or cannabis in controlled settings people might describe a interruption of short term memory with the acute use of cannabis. These effects, again, can be tolerated, meaning that repeated uses this may not occur. Or, again, in some cases it might heighten our recall.

Essentially, a famous doctor named Andrew Weil wrote a book in the seventies called The Natural Mind. He talked about this phenomenon called stoned thinking. It’s also been referred to as mosaic thinking. An idea that, OK, it’s not like you’re forgetting things, but you’re thinking about things in a different context. You’re making associations that you may not have made in a linear fashion before.

This is a kind of effect of marijuana on cognitive patterns that is really dependent, again, on the amount that’s being used and the context it’s being used in, but these things have been described in the literature. People describe creativity, creative thought patterns, or new ideas, inspiration as an effect on thought. Again, there are also concerns that people might develop the same thoughts that they were thinking before they used the drug might be heightened. So, those are thoughts about worries or thoughts about persecution. Those thoughts might be heightened under the effect of a substance that just kind of magnifies what’s already there.

It’s a very broad area, the different effects of marijuana on thought and memory, but overall you can get a sense that short term memory interruption, but possibly long term memory recall, mosaic thinking from linear thinking, and then in some cases complete tolerance to any effects at all that can’t be really measured on non-cognitive testing.

Researchers suspect cannabis can do so many things, from fighting cancer to easing concussions and Crohn’s disease. In the 1970s, a man named Robert Randall who suffered from glaucoma sued the federal government because they had conducted studies showing that marijuana could relieve the pressure, the intraocular pressure from the eye. That is to say they federally funded studies done at UCLA showed when you actually used a medical device, the pressure on the eye would go down when you inhaled marijuana. He had discovered this himself and began to use it. He was a professor at, I believe, Rutgers University. And one day he came back from a vacation and saw that he was under arrest or had to report to the police station. So he did more research and found out that the science was there and he ended up suing in federal court and winning. National headlines showed a man who had won the right to use marijuana for glaucoma. And that’s part of how, in the 70s, we learned about this indication.

Since that time, we’ve begun to understand exactly what was going on in Mr. Randall’s eye and the eyes of all the patients who have been able to find relief with marijuana. And it turns out that there’s these two chambers, an anterior chamber and a posterior chamber in your eyeball and they have a fluid back and forth. And there’s a mesh called trabecular mesh that kind of gets tighter or loosens up and helps to increase the flow from the anterior to the posterior chamber. In glaucoma patients, that is disrupted, the flow and it builds up and it causes increased pressure which can damage the retina and optic nerve.

Turns out that there are chemical receptors called cannabinoid receptors that are on the nerves, on the neurons that, you know, help to regulate the strength of that trabecular mesh. And so if you inhale marijuana, you get this cannabinoids in your body and those cannabinoids can go all throughout the body into the bloodstream. And they go through the artery called the ophthalmic artery, which is the artery that supplies blood to your eye, and they seep over there and they touch that trabecular mesh. They bind to it and they can help to open it up a little bit and reduce the pressure. That’s what’s probably going on in glaucoma patients at a basic molecular level. And it turns out they may need to use several times a day. And a lot of ophthalmologists argue there are other medicines that you can use with eye drops. But really we have done no development. Some doctors once wanted to develop cannabis based eye drops, and unfortunately was never brought to studies.

So suffice it to say, we know in studies that cannabis can reduce the pressure in the eye and a lot of glaucoma patients have discovered that and a lot of medical marijuana states allow patients with this diagnosis to use this under a doctor’s supervision and allow them to be treated that way. But we need to do more research to develop better methods of delivering it so it can be effective and last longer. But for some patients who have failed lots of treatments, this is the only thing that keeps them from going blind.

Growing Cannabis: How to Cure and Prevent Powdery Mildew
by Billy Budd (William H. Bradshaw)

The information in this video and/or transcript can be found in my book Secrets of the Pink Kush by William H. Bradshaw and is available in hard copy or e-book on Amazon.com. Please be advised that the book may be banned from some book stores in some countries due to the many secrets and/or content revealed in this three volume textbook for advanced students. This video describes the general processes for preventing and actually curing powdery mildew.

What is Powdery Mildew?
Powdery Mildew is a mildew that forms on plants when a specific fungus spores land and the fungus is allowed to thrive under its desired conditions. It will decrease the health of your plant which will result in lower yields and mildew smell on the buds. This may be harmful to your lungs so I recommend that you do not smoke cannabis that has powdery mildew or any other adulterants or issues for that matter.

How to Identify
You will see white spots on the leaves. You may think that some of your ceiling fell onto your plants or somebody spilled some white powder or perhaps paint on them. If it does not rub off, then it is probably powdery mildew. If it is only on the underside of the leaves then it is downy mildew.

An Ounce of Prevention
Ensure that your plants do not touch each. This helps to prevent the spread of diseases and bugs. This is a generally good practice. Read my book or see my other videos for best practices. Keep your humidity below 70 % relative humidity. High humidity is one of the main ingredients of PM. Keep a moderate air flow on all parts of the plants at all times. The fans should be hitting all parts of the plants at some point in time. This prevents the mildew from settling on the leaves and multiplying. Ensure that you have adequate lighting and in the correct spectrum. This means metal halide lights that are close enough so the plant receives enough lumens. Your plants need enough light such that the mildew cannot form. Keep your plants pH balanced correctly for that particular phase of growth. You start at 6.5 when they are young and work down to 6.2 during vegetation. Go from 6.2 to 5.5 during the flowering process. If you have a high humidity, no air flow and low lighting then expect PM as this is the recipe for PM.

Bacterial Remedy
RO Rice water. Boil some rice. Keep the water from the runoff. Let it sit for a few days until the bacteria forms in the rice water. Mix with some water (not too much) and spray your plants with it while the lights are off.

Alkaline
Milk
Mix a solution of water and milk in a 12:1 ratio. Ensure that it is well mixed and then apply to the plants when the lights are off . NEVER spray with lights on. Clear the solution from the leaves the next day when the lights are off. Clearing is the process of spraying the plants with pure water to ensure that the previous application has been removed from the leaves so they can breathe. Remember that plants breathe through the stomata in their leaves. You must keep the leaves clean and free from debris, dust, solution, etc. Only water is permitted and it should be exposed to light or it will magnify and burn the leaves like a magnifying glass.

Baking Soda
You can also use a cure by pH balancing your plants correctly. Use a higher alkaline solution of some kind like baking soda. Mix one gallon of water, one teaspoon of baking soda, one tablespoon of liquid soap dish detergent preferably, two tablespoons of vegetable oil like canola oil. Mix well and spray when the lights are off. The cure for powdery mildew was discovered in 1999 by Brazilian scientist Wagner Bettiol. Old school growers may not be aware of this cure if they have not updated their knowledge.

Correct your environment, as previously described and, apply your preferred solution. Keep applying the solution and then alternate with a clear. Repeat three times or until the powdery mildew is eliminated.
