Lines down the block to buy marijuana as recreational use is legalized in Maryland

Recreational use of marijuana for those 21 or older became legal in Maryland Saturday, and people eager to wake up and smell the weed were lined up outside of dispensaries to be among the first to purchase the drug under the new state law.

“It relaxes me, helps me through my pain, helps me deal with life, helps make life a little more enjoyable,” said Kirk Palmer, who was fourth in line at RISE Silver Spring before it opened.

RISE Silver Spring, previously a medical marijuana dispensary, is one of 18 facilities in Montgomery County now selling cannabis for recreational use. CEO Ben Kovlar travels across the country as states legalize, and he often sees lines before dispensaries open, as in Silver Spring.

“This is not a brand new product,” Kovlar said. “People overwhelmingly have tried this and used it before and are saying ‘wow it’s so much easier, cleaner, nicer now I know what I’m getting, I can trust this product.'”

Kovlar said Illinois and New Jersey are among the top states in recreational sales.

It’s anywhere from $35 to $60 for an eighth of an ounce, which is the standard portion size sold, varying based on potency. RISE says it typically doubles its profits when dispensaries begin selling recreational marijuana.

“I’ve been to California and Colorado, it’s finally good to see it come to Maryland, customer Eric Ford said Saturday. “It’s been a long time.”

Marijuana remains prohibited for federal workers, which may impact its popularity around the nation’s capitol.

In Maryland, adults at least 21 years old can now legally possess up to 1.5 ounces of cannabis flower according to state law. And while you can consume it in a private setting, it’ll still be illegal to use in public places, including parks, streets and sidewalks.

“Even though adults have the right to use marijuana, that doesn’t give you the right to expose others to it, especially children,” said Marc Elrich, Montgomery County executive. “It should be used legally responsibly within the possession limits established by state law. We’re not treating this as a free for all in Montgomery County.”

Studies, including a 2021 Canadian Medical Association report, have shown a connection between legalization and car crashes. Police have been training to recognize impairment behind the wheel.

2-Minute Neuroscience: THC

THC is the main psychoactive component of cannabis. In this video, I discuss the effects of THC on the nervous system.

TRANSCRIPT:

THC is the main psychoactive component of cannabis, and one of a class of compounds known as cannabinoids. Cannabis tends to be relatively low in THC compared to its levels of a THC precursor, THCA. Heating the cannabis plant, however, causes the conversion of THCA to THC, which is part of the basis for heating or burning the plant for use. The effects of cannabis may vary depending on the variety of cannabis plant and its associated levels of THC and other cannabinoids, but common effects of THC include: euphoria, sedation, stimulation of appetite, impaired cognitive function, analgesia, and anxiety.

THC is thought to exert most of its effects by binding to receptors called cannabinoid receptors. There are two known cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2–both of which are g-protein coupled receptors. CB1 receptors are found throughout the nervous system, while CB2 receptors are primarily found on immune cells. THC acts as a partial agonist at cannabinoid receptors, meaning it binds to these receptors and generates a response that’s a fraction of what other substances that bind to the receptors can generate. THC interacts with a number of other targets as well, but it’s thought that its main psychoactive effects are mediated through its action at CB1 receptors.

Activation of CB1 receptors is thought to lead to the modulation of the release of various neurotransmitters. It’s not fully understood how this translates into the characteristic effects of THC, but the activation of CB1 receptors in different areas of the nervous system may partially explain the effects of the drug. CB1 receptors in areas like the cortex and hippocampus, for example, may be involved in the perceptual and cognitive effects of THC, CB1 receptors in areas like the basal ganglia and cerebellum may be associated with sedation and effects on movement, and CB1 receptors in areas like the spinal cord and brainstem may be linked to analgesic effects.

‘Magical’ start to Minnesota marijuana seed market

Minnesota’s marijuana market is a work in progress now — a month after the legislature legalized recreational cannabis for people over 21. Some local entrepreneurs are trying to get a head start on the August 1 “go” date by starting with seeds, but it’s a tricky business.

How to Cook With Cannabis- How to Make Cannabutter

Get Baked With Buttercake
For a full description on dosing, decarboxylation and cooking with cannabis vist us at buttercake.ca.

DO NOT GRIND YOUR WEED!

LESS IS MORE!
Eating weed has a much stronger effect on your body than smoking or vaping and it lasts for up to 8-12 hours and if you make your edibles too strong the high can last for days! We know this first hand.

HOW TO DOSE YOUR BUTTER
Accurately dosing can be a challenge because there are many different variables at play. The very first thing you need to know is the % of THC in your plant, and if it’s an Indica or Sativa strain. These details are easy to find out, but when it comes to the fine details you should always buy your medical marijuana from a Licenced Producer.
The Cannabis we use in our recipe has 21% THC.
Second you want to know how much THC you want in your finished product per gram of butter.
We like to aim between 10mg – 20mg/gram of butter

In our recipe, we used 10 grams of Pink Friesland bud which is an indicia dominant hybrid

Convert your grams to milligrams

10g X1000= 10,000mg

multiply the milligrams by the per cent of THC in your Cannabis.

10,000 x 0.21= 2,100mg of THC/ batch

We started with 250g of unsalted butter and ended up with 193g of Cannabutter

Our final Cannabutter has 10.8mg of THC/gram

ABOUT DECARBOXYLATION
Decarboxylation is the process of applying heat to the raw plant. Raw cannabis contains a substance called THCA. THCA is the non-psychoactive form of THC and without decarboxylation eating your expensive cannabis would be no more effective than eating a pile of oregano. The decarboxylation process is vital in creating effective edibles.
Decarboxylation is much discussed and everyone has a different way of doing it. We follow the scientifically proven method of 240º for 60 mins in a closely monitored oven. We use a Chef Alarm model thermometer as they are the most effective and accurate thermometer on the market.
Most home ovens fluctuate between 10º – 30º in either direction, and your internal oven thermometer is not effective in catching it. Keeping a close eye on your oven temperature is vital to properly decarbed cannabis.

RECIPE

Tools
Digital scale
Oven thermometer
Crock pot

Place thermometer probe in oven and preheat your oven to 240º

INGREDIENTS
10g of decarboxylated Pink Friesland Bud @ 21% THC

We use bud because, like cooking with wine you cook with what you drink, if you wouldn’t use cooking wine don’t use cast off weed for your edibles. If you want to use leaf or shake you are more than welcome but you need to use much more and the results would be a much stronger flavoured butter. If using leaf or shake use 2-3oz which has approx. 3% THC.

250g of unsalted butter

4 cups of filtered water

INSTRUCTIONS

Break up your bud and spread it evenly on a baking sheet.
Place baking sheet in preheated oven.
Monitor your oven temp and bake your cannabis for 60 mins
Your house should smell like a massive vaporizer.

At the 30 min mark, turn your bud so it is evenly cooked

Remove your decarboxylated bud and add it to your crock pot along with the butter and water
Place the lid on the crock pot and turn onto low for 8-10hrs
During this time leave your butter alone!
We like to do it overnight.

Once your butter is fully infused (the crockpot is finished) strain the plant material from the water and liquid butter.

Throw the plant material away, there is nothing left and you can’t use it for anything else.

Place plastic wrap over your bowl and put it in the fridge until the butter solidifies on top of the water – about 8-10 hrs.

Once the butter is solid, remove it from the water and weigh your final product to give you an accurate idea of how much THC you have per gram of butter.

Our recipe yielded 183g of Cannabutter equalling 10.8g of THC/ gram of butter

How to bake weed cookies

Comedian Matt Ruby shows you how to make delicious/effective magic cookies, from THC extraction into butter to final peanut butter cookies.

RECIPE:
note: this makes your kitchen stink of “green.”

take the green and crumble it up (you’re trying to maximize surface area). leave seeds and stems in (you filter them out later anyway).

1 stick of butter per 1/4 oz of green. melt the butter in pan.

sauté the green in there for about 15-30 mins, keep lid on it, stir occasionally.

after that amount of time, the butter should turn brown and the magic stuff will have been transferred. you can then filter out the butter from the other stuff by using a strainer with very small holes or a coffee filter.

put the butter in the fridge and let it harden back to regular butter consistency. then you can use it to bake anything. i like this cookie recipe…

http://cookie.allrecipes.com/az/ClassicPBCkies.asp

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

DIRECTIONS:

Cream together butter, peanut butter and sugars. Beat in eggs.
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir into batter. Put batter in refrigerator for 1 hour.
Roll into 1 inch balls and put on baking sheets. Flatten each ball with a fork, making a criss-cross pattern. Bake in a preheated 375 degrees F oven for about 10 minutes or until cookies begin to brown. Do not over-bake.

Chew on This: Medical Marijuana Edibles | Discover Marijuana

Medical Marijuana patients have quite a large variety of products to choose from when visiting their local cannabis pharmacies. The different options can be overwhelming, especially for those who are new to cannabis medicine.

New patients often receive recommendations to start with low-dose edibles (five milligrams of THC or less) and to allow up to two hours for the medication to take effect. The onset time of edibles is slower than any other form of cannabis ingestion, so it’s critical to be patient with the process.

It can be tempting to eat a larger-than-recommended dose of cannabis edibles, but the consequence can be an unpleasant experience that lasts several hours.

Kylee Shumway, Pharmacist in Charge at WholesomeCo, says edibles work especially well for patients seeking long-term pain relief, and there are no patients for whom she does not recommend edibles.

Read our “Patient Guide to Medical Cannabis” and our “Shopping Guide for Beginners” for details on incorporating marijuana edibles into your treatment plan. https://utahmarijuana.org/medical-cannabis-guides/

Federal Cannabis Legalization News June 2023

#Federal #Cannabis #Legalization News June 2023
Cannabis legalization is a hot topic across the world. In recent news, Mexico and Canada have both passed legislation that will legalize recreational use of cannabis. The move marks the first time in history that two of North America’s largest countries have taken such action to regulate the drug’s use.

Other countries and regions are taking notice and considering their own measures for legalizing marijuana. In Europe, Switzerland recently declared its intention to allow limited sale of cannabis in pharmacies starting in 2021. Meanwhile, South Africa is looking set to become the second African country (after Lesotho) to legalize medical marijuana.

These moves come after decades of criminalization and social stigma surrounding the drug – both as a recreational substance and medicine. With these new laws, advocates believe more research can be conducted into potential medical uses for cannabis, which could lead to further breakthroughs in treatment and therapy.

How to make cannabis and weed seeds is all about timing and understanding the life cycle.

The secret is that you do not need any males to produce seeds and by reversing a female with ethylene inhibitors such as colloidal silver and STS. Without a male, you will produce all female offspring also known as feminized seeds and this breeding process can be used for both photoperiods and autoflowers(autos).

This video will teach you how to produce feminized photoperiods, feminized autoflowers, regular photoperiods, regular autoflowers. It also teaches you how to make selfie seeds which is the closest thing to a clone in seed form. This is done by taking a plant and pollinating itself. All of the visible traits (phenotypes) will be passed on to the next generation unless a hidden heterozygous gene pairs and overrides some genetics.

About Us:

Tim Pickett, a Utah QMP and founder of http://utahmarijuana.org, meets with patients daily to recommend Medical Cannabis. Having a certain CBD dosage on hand as you ease into this treatment is highly recommended, especially if you are unfamiliar or made uncomfortable by the euphoric head high that comes with cannabis. CBD will help to tap that feeling down a bit.

Your other host, Blake Smith, CSO of http://zionmedicinal.com, a Utah CBD and cannabis company, has studied cannabis and the endocannabinoid system for years, and it shows. While Tim takes over how to use CBD, THC, and loads of other cannabinoids to help different ailments, Blake will explain WHY CBD works for Parkinson’s, pain, seizures, etc. for a full spectrum view of your treatment. We believe this will help patients take control of their own healthcare — something that hasn’t been possible in many other areas.

Josh Fitzgerald is the Pharmacist in Charge at Deseret Wellness’ Provo location. He joins Tim & Blake this season to give a fresh perspective on Medical Cannabis in the Utah space and beyond.

Bipartisan Statehouse bill would legalize marijuana in Ohio

Ohioans 21 and older would be able to cultivate, purchase and possess marijuana if a bipartisan bill passes in the Ohio Statehouse.

State Reps. Jamie Callender (R-Concord Township) and Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) introduced House Bill 168 — also known as the Ohio Adult Use Act — earlier this month. The bill would also allow conviction records for prior cultivation and possession offenses to be expunged.

“Adult-use is good for our economy, good for our justice system, and the right thing to do,” Weinstein said in a news release. “Ohioans are ready to legalize cannabis.”

HB 168 would put a 10% sales tax on adult-use cannabis products. Researchers at Ohio State University estimate the potential annual tax revenue generated from adult-use cannabis in Ohio ranges from $276 million to $374 million in year five of an operational adult-use cannabis market.

Easy Ways To Make Potent Cannabis Oil From Home

This channel and its content are intended for adults over the age of 21. I do not condone any illegal activities, and this video was filmed for documentary purposes only.

In this episode of “From Seed to Stoned” I’ll be showing you how to make a potent, cannabis infused, MCT oil from home. Not only will I show the entire infusion process from start to finish, but I’ll also show two separate ways of making canna oil, one being a more traditional method using common household kitchenware, and the other using the Levo 2 Oil Infuser. At the end of the video, I’ll talk about the final results, and go over the pros and cons to either method.

Strain info:
Ocean Fruit is quite a cross to behold and fairly rare as well. Bred from Brisker OG (Tahoe OG x Peanut Butter Breath) x Purple Punch. The result is an indica leaning hybrid with a rich terpene profile that will leave your tastebuds feeling like a breeze of fresh ocean air kissed with some fruity tones rolled over them.
