When Oregon legalized recreational marijuana, the state decided to make the market as free and accessible as possible. It didn’t cap licenses, or restrict access to people living in state. It also made entry super cheap—growing licenses in Oregon go for as little as $1,000, compared to tens of thousands of dollars just across the border in California.

The hope was to make it as easy as possible for everyone to get in on the new and exciting market. And it worked really well. Too well, in fact.

Fast forward just a few years, and Oregon now has a serious problem on its hands. The roughly 1,100 licensed producers growing weed right now are growing way too much—about twice what the state is actually consuming. And that’s creating all sorts of problems. Unless, of course, you’re a consumer. Then it’s awesome.

Cloning cannabis plants is a popular technique among cultivators who seek to reproduce the desirable traits of specific strains. While there are various methods available, one intriguing and natural approach involves the use of raw honey. This article will delve into the process of cloning cannabis plants using raw honey and shed light on the reasons behind its effectiveness.

Cloning marijuana and cannabis lets you create an unlimited amount of plants from a single mother plant as long as it is a photoperiod. The best techniques always yield the best results and the key factors are:

Sterilization: H2o2(hydrogen peroxide)
Raw Honey: Contains plenty of nutrients and Anti-fungal Properties
Low light: Approximately 200 PPFD
High Humidity: 80% Plus
Warm Temperatures: Low 80’s to High 80’s

Those are the optimum conditions for cloning and by meeting all the requirements above, you can create beautiful strong clones that are as healthy or even healthier than their mothers.

The Cloning Process:

Selecting the Mother Plant: Choose a healthy, mature cannabis plant with desirable traits, such as high potency, flavor, or yield. Ensure that the plant is free from diseases or pests.

Preparing the Cloning Equipment: Gather all the necessary tools, including a clean razor or scalpel, rapid rooters, rooting hormone (raw honey), a spray bottle with water, hydrogen peroxide, and a propagator or a humidity dome.

Taking the Cuttings: Make a clean cut at a 45-degree angle on a healthy branch, approximately 4-6 inches long. Remove any excess foliage, leaving a few leaves on the cutting.

Honey Application: Dip the bottom end of each cutting into raw honey, ensuring that it is evenly coated. The honey will act as a protective sealant and provide nutrients for the rooting process.

Planting the Cuttings: Insert the honey-coated cuttings into the premoistened rapid rooters which were completely drenched in water mixed with a small squirt of hydrogen peroxide.

Creating the Ideal Environment: Place the rapid rooters with cuttings in a propagator or cover them with a humidity dome to maintain a consistently warm and humid environment, promoting root growth. Mist the domes with water using the spray bottle to maintain humidity.

Patience and Care: Keep the cuttings in a well-lit area without direct sunlight. Mist them regularly to maintain humidity and monitor their progress closely.

Transplanting: Once the roots have developed and are well-established, carefully transplant the cloned cannabis plants into individual pots or your desired growing medium.
