Which Health Conditions Can Cannabis Help Treat? | Cannabis for Beginners

Although the United States has categorized cannabis in schedule I alongside other drugs like heroin with “no accepted medical use,” cannabis is indeed useful in treating a variety of conditions. With the ability to relieve pain, boost appetite, improve sleep, alleviate anxiety or depression, and quell seizures, cannabis can be a treatment for epilepsy, AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, and several other health conditions.

Does Cannabis Go Bad? | Cannabis for Beginners

Preserving your bud can be tricky — on the one hand, you don’t want it to dry out and lose its potency, and on the other, if there’s too much moisture in the atmosphere, mold or mildew might develop. That said, when stored properly, cannabis can last up to three years. And remember, to further preserve your bud, don’t grind it before you put it away.

Can You Overdose on Cannabis? | Cannabis for Beginners

The good news is you can’t lethally overdose on cannabis, but you can certainly overdo it. While marijuana’s therapeutic index is 40,000:1, meaning that you couldn’t physically even consume enough cannabis to kill you, if you do happen to smoke or eat “too much,” you might find yourself feeling paranoid, hungry, or freaked out. Don’t worry however — make sure you’re in a comfortable environment with trusted friends, and if it’s available, try some CBD to take the edge off what could be an uncomfortable THC high.

Can I Travel With Cannabis? | Cannabis for Beginners

With cannabis legal in Canada and much of the United States, many may be wondering if they can travel with it. While it’s okay to travel with up to 30 grams of cannabis within Canada, don’t even think about traveling with it over international or state borders within the US. If you’re a cannabis tourist, your best bet is to finish your stash before you head home.

Can I Eat Raw Cannabis? | Cannabis for Beginners

It’s easy to make your own cannabis edibles at home, but it’s not as easy as simply eating raw bud. That’s because the cannabis flower needs to decarboxylate, or go through a process by which the THC becomes active in order for it to have a psychoactive effect. If you’ve never made edibles before, start with a “fire cracker”: all you need is a little cannabis flower, peanut butter (or Nutella), graham crackers, and a baking sheet. But when it’s ready, just be sure to wait at least two hours once you eat your first dose before trying more.

3 Pros and 3 Cons of Smoking Weed with a Pipe

Every marijuana consumer has a preference for how they like to consume their cannabis. Some users enjoy smoking a classic joint because they’re portable and simple. Other consumers enjoy smoking from bongs because they are smooth and cool to smoke from the water or ice. Another common and favorite way users smoke their cannabis is from a pipe. Now, consumers can go to any smoke shop and buy a cheap and easy-to-smoke pipe, but the more costly glass pipes pull and look the best because each is unique. Pipes are frequently used by consumers, though they certainly have their pros and cons.

First, pipes are common to smoke with because they’re easy to clean. Pipe cleaners are mostly used for arts and crafts now, but they’re called pipe cleaners for a reason, because they don’t leave any residue behind. Most marijuana pipes are made of glass, so they also don’t add any taste to the flower, so there’s no way the actual pipe will taint the bud. The glass material can also be considered a con because glass is so easy to break. Many users don’t travel with their pipes though, so they’re certainly a favorite way to consume marijuana among consumers.

5 Facts About How Cannabis Was Used in the Vietnam War

The Vietnam War was a long, costly, and divisive conflict between the communist government of North Vietnam and South Vietnam, which had help from its principal ally, the United States. The war was especially intensified by the ongoing Cold War between the United States and Soviet Union. With multiple wars and conflicts to fight and keep soldiers safe and protected, the Military, Navy, and Air Force required all resources, including marijuana which many soldiers relied on in Vietnam.

During the Vietnam War, cannabis was consumed because the plant grew in the wild in Vietnam. For that reason, many soldiers had their first experience smoking the drug, and it helped them continue fighting, “You get really stoned…. Then, you know, who like, who cares about the war?” Many military leaders also encouraged cannabis consumption when there were problems among their soldiers. Unlike alcohol, which was still the drug of choice, marijuana kept the soldiers mellow and focused, which helped resolve conflicts between men. When the soldiers smoked together, they used an unorthodox method involving a firearm by packing a bowl of marijuana in a shotgun chamber, soldiers smoked long drags together. We do not ever condone attempting this method to smoke, but we do condone smoking marijuana.

5 Facts About How Cannabis Was Used by the Mayan People

Marijuana is one of the oldest known psychoactive drugs that has been used for thousands of years by a number of different cultures and religions. The drug has been used all across the world for all different purposes, like in Ancient Egypt for example, cannabis was used as a pain-reliever, and traces of it is found in the remains of several mummies. Marijuana was also grown and consumed in Early America, where colonists cultivated sativa L, which contains less than 1% THC, not nearly enough for anyone to get high. The Mayan people was another civilization across the world that grew and consumed cannabis as part of its culture as well.

The Mayan people actually grew large marijuana farms that were only just recently discovered, as they were previously mistaken for pyramids, “They’re not Maya pyramids. They’re either abandoned cornfields, or active marijuana fields.” Since the Mayan people had so many marijuana farms, it’s fair to assume that they consumed the plant like they consumed tobacco, by grinding the flower into a powder to make a powerful alcoholic drink. There is also plenty of evidence of this in much of their art, which has a long suspected history of smoking depicted pictorially on murals, showing Mayans used cannabis for all purposes.

3 Pros and 3 Cons of Waking and Baking

Morning routines typically set the tone for the rest of the day, because if someone wakes up and is very productive, then they will most likely be just as productive for the rest of the day. The same is true if someone wakes up and decides to stay in bed instead, then the remainder of their day will most likely be just as lazy and relaxing. Many cannabis consumers actually have a morning routine of their own that involves marijuana and sets the tone for the rest of their day, known as the classic morning ritual, the wake and bake. For those who are unfamiliar with the wake and bake, it’s as simple as the title, consumers wake up and immediately smoke marijuana. Some consumers enjoy performing this morning ritual every morning because it helps them throughout the day, but like any other form of consumption, waking and baking has both its pros and cons.

First, many consumers enjoy waking up and smoking because it helps them start their day on a high note because if they smoke a sativa, it often gives them the energy boost they need to keep going strong all day. Many consumers actually prefer to smoke a sativa rather than drinking coffee in the morning, so in a way waking and baking is their caffeine. Marijuana users also enjoy waking and baking because it is the only quiet and peace they have before they have to get up and start working. The effects of the cannabis creates this relaxing ritual because it helps ease anxiety when stress from work really hits, so consumers who wake and bake are more prepared for the rest of their day.

5 Facts About How Marijuana Was Used in the Old West

Marijuana is one of the oldest known psychoactive drugs that has been used for thousands of years by a number of different cultures and religions. In Ancient Egypt for example, cannabis was used as a pain-reliever rather than a cure and traces of it is found in the remains of a number of mummies. In Ancient China, cannabis was mentioned in literature for the first time, when they recorded the first use of marijuana as medicine in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, the Rh-Ya. Marijuana was also consumed and used for years in the United States, including the Old West.

Cowboys in the Old West were most known for chewing tobacco, but they also consumed other drugs including marijuana, in more ways than one. Before they got to the Old West, people had to travel across the country by wagon, and these pioneer wagons were covered with cannabis fiber. Many cultures across the world also used cannabis for its strong fibers, which is why people in the Old West certainly also used the plant for clothes and lassos. Cannabis has also been used for thousands of years for many religious and spiritual purposes, so people in the Old West used the plant to keep off witches. No one will know for sure if the cannabis actually scared off witches, but it’s clear cannabis has been consumed in the United States since the very beginning.

3 Pros and 3 Cons of Getting a Medical Marijuana Card

A number of states are moving forward with marijuana legalization, and depending on the state, some dispensaries require medical marijuana cards. Even in legal states, many marijuana consumers purchase their marijuana from the black market because they don’t want to go through the process to get a medical marijuana card. Some legal states, like California, have a simple process to receive a medical marijuana card though, so there are many positives and negatives to getting a medical marijuana card.

Many marijuana consumers get medical cards because they provide extra protection to patients and marijuana businesses. Marijuana is still illegal on the federal level even though many states provide medical and recreational cannabis, so a medical card affords legal protection for patients under the state’s marijuana laws. A medical marijuana card can also help consumers save money depending on the state, because some have established tax benefits for those with medical cards. Medical patients purchase marijuana for a cheaper price than recreational users, so there are many positives to getting medical marijuana cards. The process to actually get a medical marijuana card isn’t always simple though, so many consumers and patients don’t bother getting cards.

3 Pros and 3 Cons to Federal Marijuana Legalization

Marijuana legalization is spreading all across the United States, but the drug is still illegal at the federal level. Senator Cory Booker recently proposed a bill to legalize marijuana nationwide while also encouraging states to legalize locally through incentives. The states that have legalized marijuana have had positive experiences since regulating and taxing the drug, but legalizing cannabis at the federal level will certainly have its fair share of pros and cons for both producers and consumers.

First, the reason why Booker proposed this bill, is because federal legalization will reduce incarceration of minorities, “You see these marijuana arrests happening so much in our country, targeting certain communities — poor communities, minority communities — targeting people with an illness.” Under Booker’s bill, those aggravated by these disproportionate arrests could sue. With fewer marijuana arrests as a result of federal marijuana legalization, the nation would also waste less money on jails, so the government could use that money to help elsewhere. Many marijuana farmers fear federal legalization though, because it will reduce the quality of their flower as bigger corporations enter the market. This may be especially difficult for the local economies that rely on these marijuana farms, proving that federal legalization will both help and hinder many.
